Euro 7: from 29 November 2026 it applies to new car and van models

European regulation 2024/1257 starts to apply to new types of cars and light commercial vehicles. For the first time, brake and tyre dust count too.
From 29 November 2026 the Euro 7 standard - Regulation (EU) 2024/1257 - applies to new types of passenger cars (category M1) and light commercial vehicles (category N1), that is, to models seeking type approval from that date.
The timetable
- 29 November 2026: new types of cars and vans (M1 and N1);
- 29 November 2027: all new M1 and N1 vehicles registered;
- 29 May 2028: new types of buses and trucks (M2, M3, N2, N3);
- 29 May 2029: all new buses and trucks.
What really changes
The biggest change is not only about the exhaust: Euro 7 also measures and limits particles from the brakes and tyre abrasion. If you already own a van, nothing changes: the standard applies to new vehicles.
For anyone working with a commercial vehicle, the practical side is the same as ever: pads and discs in good condition use less and make less dust.
