Air filter Mercedes-Benz Sprinter W906 (2006–2018)

About this part

The air filter holds back dust, sand and insects before they reach the cylinders. Once it clogs up less air gets through: the ECU compensates with less fuel, and what you feel is a flatter response and a higher consumption.

The stated interval is between 15,000 and 30,000 kilometres, or once a year. City driving and unsealed roads shorten it: what wears a filter out is the air that goes through it, not the odometer. On the diesel versions the turbo draws in far more air, and a dirty filter shows up on pick-up before it shows up on consumption. On a commercial vehicle working on a building site or on farm tracks the interval gets shorter: dust counts for more than kilometres.

Shape and dimensions are what matter, not the name on the box: panel, cylindrical or conical, with the exact size of the housing. The safest reference is the code printed on the filter you are taking out. On a car that has a few years on it, check the housing seal as well: a warped lid or a dried-out gasket lets unfiltered air in, and then the new filter does nothing.
