Fuel filter Volkswagen Polo VI (AW) (since 2017)

About this model

The Volkswagen Polo VI (AW) has been built since 2017.

The main engines of this generation are 1.0 TSI, 1.6 TDI.

About this part

The fuel filter stops dirt and water before they reach the injectors. Modern injectors work to tolerances of a few thousandths of a millimetre: a particle that gets through wears them, and an injector costs far more than a filter.

The usual interval is between 30,000 and 60,000 kilometres, and on diesels it often coincides with a major service. An engine that misfires under load or starts poorly may have a clogged filter. On diesel engines the filter also separates condensation water, and in winter a clogged filter is the most common cause of a hard start. On petrol engines the filter is often inside the tank, in the pump module, and is changed less often.

It can be inline, a cartridge, or part of the pump module in the tank. Connections and flow rate matter, and on diesels also the water separator and any sensor.
