Oil filter Kia Ceed II (JD) (2012–2018)

About this model

The Kia Ceed II (JD) was built from 2012 to 2018.

The main engines of this generation are 1.4, 1.6 CRDi.

About this part

The oil filter holds back the metal particles, sludge and combustion residue that the oil picks up as it circulates through the engine. When it is full, the bypass valve opens: the oil keeps flowing, but unfiltered.

It is changed at every oil change, always together: fresh oil in an old filter is dirty again within a few kilometres. The interval comes from the manufacturer, usually between 15,000 and 30,000 kilometres or once a year. On diesel engines the oil fills up with soot faster and the filter works harder: sticking to the interval matters more than on a petrol engine.

There are two types: the spin-on cartridge with a metal body, and the filter element that sits in a housing on the engine. Thread, diameter and seal matter, and the safest reference is still the number printed on the filter you are taking out. On an engine with high mileage the oil gets dirtier: a new filter at every change, without skipping one, is the cheapest maintenance there is.
