Mounting, control arm Mercedes-Benz Vito W639 (2003–2014)

About this model

The Mercedes-Benz Vito W639 was built from 2003 to 2014.

The main engines of this generation are 111 CDI, 115 CDI.

About this part

This is the silent block that joins the control arm to the body: a cylinder of rubber and metal that absorbs road vibration and holds the suspension geometry in place.

You hear it before you see it: a dull knock over bumps, a steering wheel that shakes under braking, a car that pulls to one side. The rubber cracks and gives way, and from then on the wheel angle is no longer the one it was designed to be. On a commercial vehicle these bushes work under load all day, and often give way before a hundred thousand kilometres.

What matters is the position on the arm — front or rear — and the diameter. After fitting it the alignment has to be checked: a new bush moves the toe-in, and without a check a new tyre is gone in a few thousand kilometres. On a car a few years old the rubber gives way through age even without mileage: it cracks standing still, and you can see it with the wheel turned.
