Timing belt kit Seat Ateca (since 2016)

About this model

The Seat Ateca has been built since 2016.

The main engines of this generation are 1.6 TDI, 2.0 TDI, 1.5 TSI.

About this part

The timing belt turns the camshaft in sync with the crankshaft. If it snaps, on many engines the valves hit the pistons, and the damage is serious.

It is replaced by mileage or by age, whichever comes first: depending on the engine between 90,000 and 240,000 kilometres, or every 5 to 10 years. The interval comes from the manufacturer and is not extended: a belt gives no warning before it breaks. On diesel engines the belt works under a heavier load: keeping to the interval, in years too, is essential. On several recent petrol engines the belt runs in oil: it is a different part, with its own intervals and procedures.

The complete kit is replaced - belt, tensioner and idlers - and often the water pump, which is usually driven by the same belt. Not every engine has a belt: some have a chain, with their own kits, and the version tells you which yours has.
